Endorsed Candidates

As much as we would like to, we can not financially support every woman running for Congress. We are a new Committee and are selecting just a handful of candidates to support in this run-up to the MidTerm election on November 6. We are a non-connected grassroots PAC that does not accept corporate donations. We are primarily supporting candidates through independent expenditures on social media that are not coordinated with the candidates.

We hope to support even more women in the coming years to reach our goal of 50/50 by 2020.

Our Selection Process
Our volunteer Board of Directors independently researches candidates and works to find a consensus on which candidates to support. Candidates are not contacted or consulted during the vetting period.

We are Pan-Partisan open to supporting candidates from any party or no party at all. In a race where two women are running, we have decided to remain neutral. It’s already a win!

Women Running for Governor

Alyse Galvin — Alaska Independent

We are excited to select Alyse Galvin as our first candidate endorsement of the 50/50 by 2020 Committee! Alyse is an Independent/Undeclared candidate although she ran in the Democratic Primary. The Democratic Party in Alaska allows Undeclared candidates to run and has an open primary allowing any voter to vote in their primary.

One key quality that attracted us to Alyse was her willingness to put party aside and seek solutions for the common good. “Voters are excited for an independent candidate who is going to drop partisan battles and get to solutions for Alaskans,” said Alyse Galvin. “Alaskans are looking for someone who will work for the people — not corporate PACs and special interests. I am that leader, and I can’t wait to serve all Alaskans in Congress.” (see press release Oct 12)

Abigail Spanberger - Democrat, Virginia 7th

50/50 by 2020 PAC is proud to announce Abigail Spanberger as our next Spotlight Candidate. We have endorsed Spanberger based not only on her impressive past experience in service to her country but also based on her commitment to bi-partisanship and her independent spirit. Plus, she’s a Girl Scout leader so…

“I’m running for Congress because the partisan divide in this country has become unsustainable,” said Spanberger. “Central Virginia deserves a representative who can listen to the people and make meaningful progress on important issues, a responsibility that our current representative has proven unable or unwilling to uphold.” {7/11/17 Press Release}

Young Kim - Republican, California 39th

50/50 by 2020 Political Action Committee is excited to announce Young Kim as our first Republican endorsed woman running in 2018. From her work in the California State Assembly, we can see that she is open to working across party lines to pass laws that are important to women such as protecting victims of domestic violence. She has also opposed the policy of separating children from their parents at the border.

“Young Kim is a community leader, businesswoman and public servant, all while being a mother to four children and wife to her husband Charles. As an immigrant to the United States Young Kim has a unique perspective on the American Dream, one that has led her to devote almost her entire adult life to community service.” {About}

If Young Kim wins, she will be the first Korean-American woman elected to Congress.
